Trane X13511542-010 Thermostat Operation Manual

The Trane X13511542-010 is a communicating thermostat designed for control of self-contained heating/cooling heat pump units using BACnet MS/TP. It features an intuitive, menu-driven, back-lit LCD display, PI time proportional control for accurate temperature management, remote sensor inputs (room/return air, outdoor air, supply air), digital inputs for filter status or occupancy, and an auxiliary SPST output. Key capabilities include advanced occupancy functions, programmable smart fan operation, heat pump balance points, compressor/auxiliary lockouts, and compatibility with occupancy sensor covers for energy savings. Below are the key specifications and operation instructions.

Operation Instructions

Status Display and Navigation

The thermostat features a two-line, eight-character back-lit LCD display. A low-level backlight is always active at night. When unattended, it auto-scrolls system status (e.g., room temp, system mode, schedule, outdoor temp). Press any key to activate full backlight. Manual scroll via Yes (scroll) key; last item displays for 30 seconds before auto-scroll resumes. Outdoor temp shown only if sensor connected. Sensor faults: 122°F (50°C) indicates short (disables lockouts); -40°F (-40°C) indicates open/not connected (disables functions). Alarms (up to 2) display at end of scroll with backlight: Frost ON (heating energized by low limit 42°F), SetClock (power failure >6 hrs), Service/Filter (per digital input), Fan lock (no airflow). LEDs: Fan (G active), Heating (Y1/W1 in heat), Cooling (Y1 in cool).

User Programming

Access user menu for setpoint adjustments, schedule hold/override, fan mode. Use navigation keys to scroll menus. Temporary overrides allow setpoint changes that revert after timer or manual cancel. Fan mode: Auto (cycles with system) or On (continuous). Sequence includes viewing/editing occupied/unoccupied setpoints, enabling permanent/temporary modes.

Operating Modes

1. Auto: Automatic heat/cool changeover based on setpoints.
2. Heat: Activates heat stages (Y1/W1) when below setpoint; LED on.
3. Cool: Activates cool stages (Y1) when above setpoint; LED on.
4. Off: No operation; fan off unless set to On.
5. Emergency Heat: For heat pumps; locks out compressor, uses aux heat (W1/W2).
6. Fan: Auto (with calls) or On (continuous for circulation).

Installer Configuration

Access via password (default 0). Key parameters include:

Additional: High/Low balance points (lockout temps), compressor/aux interlock.

Advanced Features

1. Occupancy: Occupied/Unoccupied modes; remote NSB/override via digital inputs; temporary overrides (toggle via contact).
2. Balance Points: High (locks aux heat above temp), Low (locks compressor below temp).
3. Aux Output: SPST relay for lighting/exhaust/fresh air; N.O. for occupancy toggle.
4. Fan Lock: Airflow sensor detects no flow 10s after G energize; locks heat/cool.
5. Smart Fan: Energy-saving during unoccupied.
6. Anti-Short Cycle: Programmable min on/off times.

Troubleshooting

Installation Instructions

Warning: Qualified personnel only. Disconnect power. Follow lockout/tagout. Use safety devices; thermostat not a safety control.

Notes: Jumper RC-RH for single transformer. Max 2A current. Digital inputs: dry contact across C. Aux: N.O. for occupancy. Transformer powers thermostat and loads. For heat pump: Connect Y1/Y2 compressor, W1/W2 aux, O/B reversing valve, G fan.

Configuration Options

  1. Mount backplate; connect wires per terminal diagram and system type.
  2. Power up; access installer menu (password 0).
  3. Set parameters: Network addr, DI configs, lockouts, stages, balance points, anti-cycle.
  4. Test outputs: Force fan/heat/cool calls.
  5. Program user schedule/overrides; reset clock if needed.

Calculation Tool

Estimate monthly energy savings from occupancy scheduling (assumes 2°F setback saving 0.1 kWh per hour unoccupied; 30 days/month).
