Trane TAYSTAT 575 Thermostat Operation Manual

The Trane TAYSTAT 575 is an electronic heat pump thermostat designed for 24 Vac, two-speed or two-compressor heat pump systems with auxiliary heat. It can be configured for single compressor heat pump systems. Key features include system modes (Em. Ht., Heat, Off, Auto, Cool), fan modes (On, Auto), automatic changeover, and compatibility with an outdoor temperature sensor for compressor control. It requires a common wire (B terminal) for power and supports up to three stages of auxiliary heat. Below are the key specifications and operation instructions.

Operation Instructions

Initial Setup

1. Power On: Apply power after installation; the thermostat performs a power-up sequence (all LCD segments display briefly).
2. Enter Installer Setup: Press and hold the Increase key for 5 seconds; display shows setup numbers (e.g., 01 for temperature scale). Use Increase to scroll and Decrease to change values.
3. Configure Basics: Set temperature scale (°F/°C), extended fan operation (heating/cooling On/Off), changeover (Auto/Manual), compressor minimum off time (3/5/10/15 min), and auxiliary heat type.
4. Exit Setup: Press the Information (i) key or wait for auto-exit after 5 minutes.
5. Perform System Test: Press and hold Increase for 10 seconds; tests stage-one heat, stage-two heat, stage-three heat, emergency heat, stage-one cool, and stage-two cool.

Home Screen Navigation

1. Display: Shows current room temperature, setpoints, system mode (Em. Ht./Heat/Off/Auto/Cool), fan mode (On/Auto), and status indicators.
2. Controls: Use Increase/Decrease keys to adjust setpoints; System key to cycle modes; Fan key to toggle On/Auto; Information (i) key for thermostat info (software revision, EEPROM code).
3. Key Usage: Press with fingertip or blunt tool; avoid sharp objects to prevent damage.

Operating Modes

1. Emergency Heat (Em. Ht.): Activates auxiliary heat relay, bypassing compressor.
2. Heat: Engages compressor and auxiliary heat as needed; raise setpoint above room temp.
3. Cool: Engages compressor; lower setpoint below room temp.
4. Auto: Automatically switches between heat and cool with automatic changeover.
5. Off: System inactive.
6. Fan: Auto (runs with system) or On (continuous).

Settings Screen

1. Access Installer Setup: Hold Increase for 5 seconds; scrolls through options (01-08+).
2. Key Settings: Temperature scale (01: °F/°C); Extended fan in heating (02: On/Off); Extended fan in cooling (03: On/Off); Changeover (04: Auto/Manual); Compressor min off time (05: 3/5/10/15 min); Temp display adjustment (06: ±3°F to 0); Clock accuracy (07: ±15 to 0 min/year); Auxiliary heat (08: 0=No aux, 1=Gas, 2=Electric).
3. Exit: Press Information (i) or timeout (5 min).

Advanced Features

1. Outdoor Temperature Sensor: Compatible with TAYSENS100A for compressor lockout based on outdoor temp.
2. Auxiliary Heat: Up to three stages (AUX1, AUX2, AUX3); configurable type (gas/electric).
3. Extended Fan: Runs fan after heating/cooling cycle (configurable On/Off).
4. System Test: Verifies all stages (hold Increase 10s); compressor protection bypassed during test.
5. Thermostat Info: Press Information (i) for software revision (e.g., 001) and EEPROM code (e.g., 222).

Troubleshooting

Installation Instructions

Warning: Trained technician only. Disconnect power before wiring to avoid shock or damage.

Pre-Installation

Wiring Diagrams

Typical hookup for two-compressor heat pump with auxiliary heat (letter codes near terminals):

TerminalConnection
RPower (24 Vac hot)
BCommon (required for power)
Y1Stage-one compressor contactor
Y2Stage-two compressor contactor
OChangeover (energizes in cool mode)
W/AUXAuxiliary/emergency heat relay (stage-one aux)
EEmergency heat relay
GFan relay
AUX2Stage-two auxiliary heat
AUX3Stage-three auxiliary heat
S1/S2Outdoor temperature sensor (TAYSENS100A)

Note: For single compressor, down-select Y2 in setup. Connect to outdoor unit, auxiliary heat strips/relay, fan, and transformer. All wiring per local codes.

Configuration Options

  1. Installer Setup: Hold Increase for 5 seconds; scroll with Increase, adjust with Decrease (see Settings for options 01-08+).
  2. Fan Operation: Configure extended fan in heating/cooling (On/Off).
  3. Changeover: Auto (default) or Manual.
  4. Compressor Off Time: 3/5/10/15 min.
  5. Aux Heat: 0=No, 1=Gas, 2=Electric.
  6. System Test: Hold Increase for 10 seconds; tests all stages (fan included where applicable).
  7. Exit: Press Information (i) or timeout.

Calculation Tool

Estimate monthly energy savings from auxiliary heat lockout (assumes 0.4 kWh per hour avoided aux use; based on 5°F lockout threshold; 30 days/month).
